PGA responds after report claims McIlroy's driver deemed nonconforming

The PGA of America issued a statement Saturday in response to Friday's report that the USGA deemed Rory McIlroy's driver nonconforming ahead of the PGA Championship's opening round.

McIlroy was reportedly forced to use his backup driver for the first two rounds at Quail Hollow and clearly struggled to get comfortable, hitting just 10 of 28 fairways - a number ranking 152nd in the 156-man field.

The PGA of America didn't confirm McIlroy as one of the players tested but said the USGA put roughly one-third of the field through the process.

It's not abnormal for a player's driver to be ruled nonconforming, and both the USGA and PGA of America stated there aren't "any concerns about player intent."

McIlroy hasn't commented on the report about the nonconforming club as he's opted against speaking to the media following the first two rounds at Quail Hollow.
