PGA Championship insights: Bettors choosing Scheffler among the Big 3

Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite for this week's PGA Championship, and bettors are supporting him the most out of everyone in the field.

The World No. 1 has amassed 18.8% of the handle on theScore Bet/ESPN Bet and 11.6% of the total bets, leading the way in both categories. Scheffler's odds have remained consistent since Monday, sitting at +450.

Rory McIlroy, second on the oddsboard at +475, has received the second-most handle at 14.7% and 10.5% of the bets. McIlroy, fresh off his Masters victory, is a four-time winner at Quail Hollow - the site of his first PGA TOUR victory in 2010.

Bryson DeChambeau has attracted the second-most bets of anyone in the outright market, but only narrowly over Scheffler. DeChambeau has 11.3% of the total bets placed and 12.7% of the handle. However, his odds have moved the most. DeChambeau opened the week at +1100 but has been bet down to +800.

Justin Thomas (+1600) has taken the fourth most bets and handle, and Ludvig Aberg (+2500) sits fifth in both categories.

Outside of the outright market, Thomas finishing in the top 10 is the most bet on prop. DeChambeau and Schauffele placing in the top 10 ranks second and third, while Scheffler and McIlroy recording a top-five spot rounds out the five most-bet props.

Bettors are hoping to see a rare hole-in-one. Any player scoring an ace is the most bet on non-placement prop at +130. There have only been six holes-in-one in 20 tournaments contested at Quail Hollow.

There's still plenty of time for these numbers to vary slightly ahead of Thursday's opening tee shot, but for now, Scheffler is the player most bettors will be rooting for.
