Billy Horschel will undergo right hip surgery and will be sidelined for months, he announced Tuesday on social media.

"It's an unfortunate situation with so many great events left on the calendar, but this is a preventative measure," the 38-year-old said. "I'm already looking forward to getting the rehab started, getting back to practicing, and hopefully returning to the golf course in late summer, early fall."

Horschel withdrew from the Zurich Classic in April, citing a lower-body injury.

The eight-time PGA TOUR winner finished tied for fourth at the Valspar Championship in March before missing the cut at the Masters and finishing T27 at the RBC Heritage in April.

Horschel won the inaugural SoFi Cup as TGL champions with the Atlanta Drive GC in March. He was a star for his team, making multiple clutch shots en route to victory.

The PGA Championship is in nine days.
