Previous results

Jon Rahm is the defending champion after he ran away with the event last year. It initially appeared he won by five strokes, but he was assessed a two-shot penalty for causing his ball to move before he chipped in for birdie on No. 16. Rahm walked away with a three-shot victory for his fifth PGA TOUR title.

Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambeau both secured the biggest wins of their careers - at the time - in 2019 and 2018, respectively.

The venue also held the Workday Charity Open in 2020, which Collin Morikawa won in a thrilling playoff over Justin Thomas.

The field

The Memorial always brings out a strong field, and this year is no different.

Eighteen of the top 30 players in the world will be in action, including Thomas, Morikawa, DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, and defending champion Rahm.

Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Cantlay, and Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama round out the notables in the 121-man field.

The course

Muirfield Village is a 7,543-yard, par-72 course designed by Nicklaus. It's considered one of the toughest courses in the PGA TOUR's rotation, which was proven last year when Rahm won with a score of just 9-under.

Players will need to regularly hit fairways to attack the smaller-than-average greens. Muirfield rewards elite iron play - part of the reason why Tiger Woods won there five times - because missing greens leads to extremely difficult up-and-down situations. No course produced a lower scrambling percentage last year than Muirfield.
