The course

The South Course at Torrey Pines is a 7,652-yard par 71 oceanside venue that is regularly visited by the PGA TOUR with its annual Farmers Insurance Open.

The municipal course located just north of San Diego is the prototypical U.S. Open setup with its narrow fairways and thick rough that place a premium on both distance and accuracy off the tee. The course is expected to play much firmer in June than it does in January, which will make controlling approach shots onto the greens considerably tougher.

Torrey Pines hosted the 2008 U.S. Open, which Tiger Woods famously won in a playoff over Rocco Mediate while playing on a broken leg.
