Contrasting styles topped the leaderboard at the RBC Heritage, with Webb Simpson outpacing Bryson DeChambeau and Corey Conners by one shot after Round 2 from Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Simpson relied on his accuracy and hot putter to post 65 for his second straight round of 6-under par. He gained nearly six shots with his putting on Friday.

DeChambeau, on the other hand, managed to overpower the tight Harbour Town Golf Links en route to a 7-under 64. DeChambeau leads the field in strokes gained: off the tee a week after debuting his incredible gains in distance last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Conners carded one of the low rounds of the day with a bogey-free 63 to vault into contention.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard stands after Day 2:

Place Player To Par R2 Score
1 Webb Simpson -12 65
T2 Bryson DeChambeau -11 64
T2 Corey Conners -11 63
T4 Ryan Palmer -10 67
T4 Matthew Fitzpatrick -10 66
T6 Abraham Ancer -9 64
T6 Jhonattan Vegas -9 63
T6 Matthew NeSmith -9 67
T6 Brooks Koepka -9 66

Brooks Koepka carried his strong play from Round 1 into Friday. He posted a 66 to get into contention for the first time since the 2019 Tour Championship.

Dustin Johnson is another struggling top-five player showing signs he's rounding into form. The 35-year-old shot 66 to sit at 8-under for the event, four strokes behind Simpson.

Rory McIlroy (5-under), Jon Rahm (4-under), and Justin Thomas (4-under) rebounded on Friday from poor opening rounds to make the 4-under cut.

Rickie Fowler, Hideki Matsuyama, and Patrick Reed headline the group who failed to make the weekend.
