Jason Day was close to calling it a career last year due to a nagging back injury, he revealed at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am this past weekend.
"I was, for a moment there, (thinking about giving up the game) when I was playing," he said, according to Golf Monthly's Elliott Heath.
"I just, I honestly felt like I probably - and I've talked to my wife about this a lot. I'm like, 'I think I'm nearly done here,' just because of how much pain I was in," he continued.
Day, 32, was forced to withdraw from the Presidents Cup in December in his native Australia due to his ailing back. His back issues date all the way back to 2015, when he became the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world. He currently sits 38th.
Day revealed last year that he spends 20-30 minutes a night blowing into balloons in various positions to help get his rib cage into proper position.
The 12-time PGA Tour winner hasn't won since May 2018 at the Wells Fargo Championship. However, he finished fourth at Pebble Beach.
