If John Daly is going to play at The Open this year, he's going to have to walk just like everybody else.

Daly's request to use a cart at this year's final major at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland has been denied, the R&A announced Saturday.

"Having considered all of the relevant factors, the Championship Committee has decided to decline his request. The R&A believe that walking the course is an integral part of the Championship and is central to the tradition of links golf which is synonymous with The Open. We must also ensure that, as far as possible, the challenge is the same for all players in the field."

Daly was permitted to use a cart at the PGA Championship in May due to an ailing right knee. He missed the cut at 11-over par. The 53-year-old was the first player to use a cart at a major since Casey Martin in 2012.

Tiger Woods was critical of Daly, stating he once walked a tournament with a broken leg.

Daly has just one PGA Tour win - the 2004 Buick Invitational - since his four-hole playoff victory over Costantino Rocca at The 1995 Open.
