The USGA announced the hiring of longtime PGA Tour member Jason Gore as the organization's first-ever senior director of player relations on Friday.

Gore's role will be to interact with professional and elite amateur players across the sport, focusing on competitors in USGA sanctioned events. He'll lead a team of full-time staff dedicated to player relations.

The 44-year-old was a highly regarded player in his day, according to TSN's Bob Weeks.

The hire comes after a turbulent start to the year for the USGA, which has faced ongoing criticism from PGA Tour players regarding the new rules implemented for 2019.
