All signs are pointing toward another edition of The Match in 2019 - and perhaps beyond - after Turner reportedly signed a three-year deal with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson's joint business entity, according to GolfWorld's Dave Shedloski.
The deal with Turner doesn't necessarily mean another one-on-one match between Woods and Mickelson is imminent, but a confidant of the two men told GolfWorld that a team showdown is "almost a certainty." Tiger and Phil could join forces against two other golfers, or they could each pick a partner and remain on opposite teams.
The viewing numbers for Thanksgiving weekend's $9-million, winner-take-all showdown between Woods and Mickelson haven't been released, but apparently almost 1 million customers paid the $19.95 fee for the pay-per-view event, sources told GolfWorld.
Of course, a technical disaster forced Turner to remove the paywall and refund those who had already paid. The event's Capital One sponsorship and other backing helped alleviate the financial damage.
