Zach Johnson is parting ways with his longtime caddie Damon Green after 15 years together.

“Zach said, ‘I think we need to take a break. It’s not a ‘firing.’ We’re too good friends for that.’” Green told The Caddie Network on Saturday.

“I just think he didn’t want to say the word ‘fire.’ I was shocked.”

Green was by Johnson's side for both of his major wins - the Masters in 2007, and The Open in 2015. However, Johnson struggled over the course of the 2018 season with just three top-10 finishes.

Johnson sits 11th all time with $44.7 million in earnings, and with caddies typically receiving a 10 percent cut, Green likely won't be racing to hand out resumes anytime soon.

The pair were one of the longest-running player-caddie duos on Tour.

“He’s probably had a Hall of Fame career and I had a front-row seat to it,” Green said. “It was great to watch.”

Johnson is expected to hire Brett Waldman, who has served as Charley Hoffman’s caddie.
