For Jason Day, putting is the strongest part of his game, but it didn't travel with him to Hawaii this week.
Day has given himself plenty of looks through three rounds, hitting 47-of-54 greens, but has failed to capitalize.
"The short game isn't as tight as I'd like it to be, hitting it alright but the putting has been pretty horrific," said Day.
When asked what has been the cause of his struggles, the Aussie said it's not the speed but in getting the ball to go where he wants it to.
"I'm struggling to really start my ball on my line that I am picking, and that goes right to left and left to right. It's very difficult to know where I am aiming and when you don't know where you are aiming it's very difficult to hole putts."
Day took considerable time off after the end of last season - 105 days to be exact - and stated he just needs to get the feeling of his stroke back and let go of the technical side.
"I don't think it's a technical thing, I think it's more of I got to get back into the process of actually learning to hole more putts or the thought process of holing putts. It's probably gone to too much technical thoughts over the ball and that's probably why."
