Hughes earns 1st career PGA Tour victory in RSM Classic playoff

Mackenzie Hughes picked up his first career PGA Tour victory on Monday morning, winning the suspended RSM Classic in a playoff.

Hughes, who's sponsored by theScore, parred the third playoff hole and watched as Camilo Villegas bogeyed, giving the Canadian golfer the win.

Hughes began the morning in a four-man playoff with Villegas, Henrik Norlander, and Blayne Barber.

It initially began as a five-man playoff, but Billy Horschel was eliminated after missing a short par putt on the first extra hole Sunday evening, before play was suspended due to darkness.

Hughes became the first PGA Tour rookie to go wire-to-wire in 20 years.

He opened the tournament with a 61 on Thursday and led after each of the first three rounds.

The 25-year-old is now exempt through the 2018-19 season, with guaranteed spots in The Masters, The PGA Championship, The Players Championship, and The Tournament of Champions in 2017.
