Canada's 23rd medal breaks national record for non-boycotted Summer Olympics

Laurence Vincent Lapointe and Katie Vincent won bronze in the first-ever women's canoe double 500m on Friday, marking Canada's 23rd medal at the Tokyo Olympics and setting a new national record for most medals won at a non-boycotted Summer Games.

Canada previously totaled 22 medals at both Atlanta 1996 and Rio 2016. (Canadian athletes won 44 medals at Los Angeles 1984, a total significantly inflated by the boycott of 14 Eastern Bloc countries, including the Soviet Union and East Germany.)

The nation's total of six gold medals in Tokyo is the most won since Barcelona 1992.

Seventeen of Canada's 23 medals were won by individual women or teams of women.
