NEW YORK - The New York Rangers have recalled defenseman Brady Skjei from Hartford of the AHL with the status of captain Ryan McDonagh uncertain.
McDonagh was hit in the hand by a shot in the Rangers' win over Columbus on Monday night and didn't play in the final two periods.
The team says McDonagh will be re-evaluated on Tuesday, before the Rangers play Tampa Bay.
Skjei has skated in four games with the Rangers this season, most recently last month against Buffalo. The 22-year-old, who was New York's first-round pick in 2012, has four goals and 24 assists in 68 games with Hartford this season.
