It appears as though Anze Kopitar is going to be a member of the Los Angeles Kings for a very long time.
The Kings are "very close" to locking up Kopitar to a long-term extension, reported Pierre LeBrun on TSN's "Insider Trading" on Thursday.
"It's gonna be eight years, around $9.75 million a year," LeBrun said.
LeBrun added that there are still some final details to work though, but he expects the deal to be finalized sometime in January.
Kopitar was instrumental in a pair of Stanley Cup-winning seasons for the Kings, recording 46 points in 46 games during the two playoff runs.
The 28-year-old has nine goals and 11 assists in 31 games this season.
