Garret Sparks became the first Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender ever to earn a shutout in his NHL debut on Monday night, and he showed how much it meant to him immediately following the historic 3-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers.
Sparks was at a loss for words after being named the game's first star, showing emotion in the postgame interview with Air Canada Centre in-game host Lauren Howe:
Sparks stopped all 24 shots he faced and became the 25th goalie in league history to post a shutout in his debut.
