Evgeni Nabokov returns to Sharks as goalie development coach, special scout
The winningest goaltender in San Jose Sharks history has returned to the organization.
Evgeni Nabokov has been named the team's goaltending development coach and special assignment scout, general manager Doug Wilson announced Saturday. The role involves working with the club's goaltending prospects and assisting in the further development of their skills and technique.
"Nabby's career speaks for itself and he is one of the most beloved players to ever play for our franchise," Wilson said. "He will be a tremendous asset to our young, developing goaltenders. I have great respect for him as a hockey person and as a man."
Nabokov appeared in a team-record 563 games over 10 seasons with the Sharks, setting franchise high in wins (209) and shutouts (50).
From there, he spent three seasons with the New York Islanders and appeared in 11 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, his final stop in the NHL as a player.
The 2001 Calder Trophy winner announced his retirement from the ice in February.
