Local boy makes good, at least for one moment.
Invited to New York Islanders mini-camp as an undrafted free agent, 21-year-old John Schiavo of East Patchogue, NY, wowed onlookers by dropping a ridiculous, lacrosse-style move in a shootout Wednesday.
Schiavo, who recorded 30 goals in 58 games for the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL this past season, is described as being "a great stickhandler" on the Islanders website. Looks like someone nailed that scouting report.
