John Slaney has secured a home with the Arizona Coyotes.

The team announced they've signed the former NHL defenseman, a 1990 first-round draft choice, to a multi-year contract as an assistant coach.

"We are pleased to add John to our coaching staff," said general manager Don Maloney. "John has done a good job developing our young prospects in the American Hockey League and he will continue to do similar work here in Arizona."

Slaney spent the previous four seasons as an assistant with the Portland Pirates, who were the Coyotes' AHL affiliate, but as of March became partners with the Florida Panthers.
