The Montreal Canadiens played half of Game 1 without P.K. Subban after the defenseman was ejected for slashing Mark Stone in the second period of Wednesday's contest against the Ottawa Senators.
Subban received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the slash, which occurred 8:23 into the second period with the Canadiens leading 2-1. Montreal prevailed 4-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.
Stone left the game briefly but returned before the end of the period. He left the game again after playing one shift to start the third before returning again.
Subban appears unlikely to face supplemental discipline for the slash, according to reporters.
