NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said the league hopes to stage an outdoor game in Europe sometime soon.
"I think it's going to happen, for sure," Daly said, per NHL.com's Tom Gulitti. "When it's going to happen, I couldn't tell you, but I would say relatively near future would be a good guess."
The NHL announced that the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers will travel to Germany for the Global Series in 2027-28, and Daly noted the country could be a candidate for an outdoor game down the line.
The Seattle Kraken and Carolina Hurricanes will play in Finland in November as part of the upcoming season's Global Series. The NHL has staged games in Europe annually over the past several years, with stops in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Czechia, and Switzerland.
The league has never played outdoors overseas.
The 2026-27 NHL season will feature three outdoor games. The Winnipeg Jets will host the Montreal Canadiens at the Heritage Classic, the Utah Mammoth will take on the Colorado Avalanche at the Winter Classic, and the Dallas Stars will face the Vegas Golden Knights at the Stadium Series.
