After a 3-2 shootout win by the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Ottawa Senators Sunday night, the Washington Capitals clinched a playoff spot.
The Capitals needed the Senators to lose in any fashion against the Maple Leafs after they defeated the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 earlier in the day.
Washington will return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
