The battle for top spot in the Metropolitan division took place on Tuesday as the New York Islanders hosted the New York Rangers.
Both teams played tight defensive hockey for the first two periods, limiting the amount of scoring chances.
Kevin Hayes would not be stopped, however, as the 22-year-old forward used some sweet stick work to beat Islanders netminder Jaroslav Halak.
Hayes paid a price after the goal when he was hammered into the goal post by Matt Martin.
