Report: Oilers reach out to Jeff Petry about potential contract extension

The club has reportedly had recent discussions with Petry's representatives in regards to a potential contract extension, according to Ryan Rishaug of TSN.

This places the ball firmly in Petry's court, as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. Should he rebuff this latest advance, the Oilers will surely look to trade him prior to the March 2 deadline, where he's sure to garner many suitors as a much sought after right-hand shot.
Complicating matters, however, is the fact that Petry was injured late in a shootout win over Boston on Wednesday, the extent of which will play a part in his immediate future.
