The Calgary Flames are reportedly discussing a contract extension with defenseman T.J. Brodie, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Brodie, a restricted free agent on July 1, has enjoyed a tremendous start to his contract season, filling out an emerging top-tier defensive tandem with Flames captain Mark Giordano.

He shares the team's point lead with Giordano, scoring two goals and six points in six games so far this season.

The 24-year-old is earning $2.5-million this season on the second year of a $4.25-million bridge deal signed in 2013 and should attract a significant pay increase in contract negotiations.
