The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forward Brandon Sutter to a two-year, $6.6-million contract Tuesday.
The Penguins are looking to get the most out of the 25-year-old who posted a career-best 40 points in his sophomore season with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Sutter doesn't want to be on the fourth line this season. He wants a bigger role with the team and feels he's ready for it.
"I want to be counted on. I don’t want to be looked at as just going out there and killing minutes," he told NHL.com.
Now that he feels more comfortable with the team after two seasons, Sutter set some goals for himself for the next two.
"I just want to feel like I’m a part of the leadership group of the team and try to move forward, and get that goal of making it further in the playoffs and ultimately winning the Cup."
Sutter mentioned the Penguins agreed a two-year deal was best, as Sutter didn't want to become a free agent at the end of the season.
"I wasn't too sure about a one-year deal. I didn't want one year. But anything longer than two didn't make full sense right now. I’m happy to be there two more years."
