Maple Leafs met with William Nylander for 2 hours before drafting him
The Toronto Maple Leafs knew who they wanted to draft hours before they were on the clock Friday night in Philadelphia.
Without hesitation the Maple Leafs selected William Nylander with the eighth overall selection. Nylander, born in Calgary in 1996, is said to have an attitude problem, something general manager Dave Nonis isn't concerned about.
"He thinks he’s good enough to play a significant role on a men’s pro team. Some people have a problem with that. To me, I have no issue if he can back it up with his play," he told Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star.
President Brendan Shanahan didn't see any negatives in Nylander either:
Shanahan met with William and Michael Nylander for two hours on Friday before the draft. Leafs intended to draft him going in.
