The Buffalo Sabres acquired defenseman Olen Zellweger from the Anaheim Ducks for the 45th overall selection in Friday's draft and forward prospect Anton Wahlberg, the teams announced.
Zellweger is a restricted free agent this summer. He posted a career-high 22 points in 76 contests this past season while averaging nearly 17 minutes per game.
The Ducks drafted Zellweger 34th overall in 2021.
Wahlberg was a second-round choice of the Sabres in 2023. He is yet to make his NHL debut and notched 38 points in 68 games for the AHL's Rochester Americans in 2025-26.
The Sabres have traded Michael Kesselring, Bowen Byram, and Alex Tuch so far this offseason while also signing Zach Benson to a long-term extension. Buffalo has approximately $13.8 million in cap space to keep pursuing roster improvements, per PuckPedia.
The Ducks now own two second-round picks in this year's draft. Anaheim has been quiet so far this offseason but is rumored to be open to moving forward Mason McTavish.
