The Vancouver Canucks interviewed former Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion for their vacant GM position, reports TSN's Darren Dreger.
Dorion was at the helm of the Senators from 2016-23. Ottawa made the Eastern Conference Final in his first season before missing the playoffs for the rest of his tenure. The Senators went 225-261-59 under Dorion.
The 53-year-old was fired in 2023 after the Senators were penalized a first-round pick for their role in the invalidated trade of Evgenii Dadonov. The NHL has since opted not to make Ottawa forfeit the selection entirely and will instead get the 32nd and final pick of the first round in this year's draft. The team was also fined $1 million.
The Senators drafted franchise pieces including Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Jake Sanderson, Drake Batherson, and Shane Pinto under Dorion. He traded the likes of Mika Zibanejad, Matt Duchene, Erik Karlsson, and Mark Stone while in Ottawa.
Vancouver fired GM Patrik Allvin on April 17. The Canucks finished last in the NHL this season and own a 25.5% chance of picking first overall in June.
