Morrissey exits Canada's Olympic opener with injury
Team Canada defenseman Josh Morrissey exited Thursday's win over Czechia with an injury and didn't return.
Morrissey departed in the second period, though it's unclear how he suffered the injury. Head coach Jon Cooper didn't have an update on the blue-liner postgame.
The Winnipeg Jets blue-liner was playing on Canada's second pair with Colton Parayko. Shea Theodore, who began the game as Canada's seventh defenseman, took Morrissey's place. Travis Sanheim was a healthy scratch for the opener but would likely dress Friday against Switzerland if Morrissey can't suit up.
Canada can't add an injury replacement to the roster for Morrissey now that the tournament has started.
Morrissey has recorded 42 points in 56 games with the Jets this season. He's finished no lower than seventh in Norris Trophy voting in each of the last three years.
Canada won its tournament opener 5-0.
