Report: Rantanen won't be suspended after ejection for boarding Romanov

Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen was handed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the final minute of regulation in New York's 3-2 win.

Romanov was down in pain as a scrum ensued around him before he needed help off the ice.

Islanders head coach Patrick Roy was visibly upset with the hit, directing some choice words toward Rantanen as he left the ice.

Roy had no update on Romanov postgame.

"When you see the number, you have to lay off," Roy told reporters postgame while speaking about the hit. "Everybody knows that. You don't go through the guy."

Roy, notably, coached Rantanen as a rookie with the Colorado Avalanche. "That's not his style," Roy added.

Rantanen won't face any supplemental discipline for the hit, according to Lia Assimakopoulos of the Dallas Morning News.

The Stars thought they tied the game with 0.1 seconds left in regulation, but the goal was called back for goaltender interference.

"Anytime there's a player in the blue (paint), you're gonna argue, 'Was he pushed in or did he go in on his own?' Obviously, you know where we'd stand on that," Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan said postgame. "I thought we had a good chance because the call on the ice was a good goal."
