Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel announced forward Mark Scheifele will play in Saturday's Game 6 against the Dallas Stars hours after the death of his father, Brad.
Arniel added Scheifele said this is what his dad would've wanted.
"He's with us, and Mark really wants to play for him tonight," Arniel said.
Scheifele has registered 10 points in 10 contests this postseason, including a goal and an assist in Winnipeg's critical Game 5 victory on home ice. He missed Games 6 and 7 of the first round due to injury.
The 32-year-old notched a career-high 87 points in the regular season.
Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Winnipeg trails its series with the Stars 3-2.
