Fehervary to miss rest of playoffs after knee surgery
Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary will miss the entire postseason after undergoing surgery Monday to repair the meniscus in his right knee, the team announced Tuesday.
Fehervary suffered the injury April 15 against the New York Islanders. He didn't suit up in Washington's 3-2 overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 on Monday.
The 25-year-old recorded 25 points in 81 games this campaign while averaging 19 minutes per contest.
Fehervary's presence on the penalty kill will be missed, as he led all Capitals defensemen in shorthanded minutes during the regular season. Montreal went 1-for-2 on the power play in Game 1.
Alexander Alexeyev entered the lineup in Fehervary's place Monday. Matt Roy was Fehervary's most common defense partner at five-on-five during the regular season, but Washington shuffled its pairings for Game 1.
