The Colorado Avalanche were dealt another major blow Monday, as forward Ross Colton suffered an apparent foot injury that will force him to "miss some time," head coach Jared Bednar said postgame.
"We'll get a better feel on how much time that's going to be by tomorrow or Wednesday morning," Bednar added.
Colton suffered the injury while blocking a shot during Colorado's 5-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. He left the arena in a walking boot.
The 28-year-old is thriving on the Avalanche's top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. He entered Monday tied for second in the NHL with eight goals in nine games.
Colorado is already without forwards Gabriel Landeskog, Artturi Lehkonen, and Valeri Nichushkin. None of them have played this season, and Jonathan Drouin was hurt in the team's opener and hasn't played since.
It's been a roller-coaster season for the Avalanche, who started 0-4-0, then won five straight games before Monday's loss.
