Montreal Canadiens rookie Juraj Slafkovsky was suspended two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday for boarding Detroit Red Wings forward Matt Luff.
Slafkovsky hit Luff from behind into the boards during the third period of Tuesday's game.
Luff will have wrist surgery on Thursday as a result of the hit and will miss 10-12 weeks, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said, per Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press.
The 25-year-old has skated in seven games for the Red Wings this year, recording one goal and zero assists.
Slafkovsky, the 2022 first overall pick, has tallied three goals and zero helpers in 10 games this season.
