Cernak left the game but later returned.
The Department of Player Safety reviews all plays on which a match penalty is assessed unless it's ultimately rescinded. The league will take a look at Gambrell's hit, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
The 26-year-old scored his first goal of the season in the first period.
Gambrell is in his first campaign with Ottawa after playing his first four seasons with the San Jose Sharks.
