Pettersson is widely considered the runaway favorite for the Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie. He leads the Canucks with 22 goals and 42 points in 38 games this season.
Vancouver kept its head above water without its top offensive player in the lineup, going 2-1-2 in Pettersson's absence.
Entering Sunday's action, the Canucks sat just one point out of a playoff spot.
