Washington Capitals forward Daniel Winnik left Thursday's game versus the Florida Panthers after taking a slapshot to the back of the head.
Sprawling out to block a shot on a third-period penalty kill, Winnik came within mere inches of disaster, but luckily was able to skate off the ice under his own power. He ultimately returned to the contest.
However, Winnik didn't escape completely unscathed:
Barry Trotz said Daniel Winnik lost a little piece of his ear when the puck hit him in the head. Seriously.
