In an effort to shine a light on the unnoticed or outright ignored, we've built a list of players who are way off the fantasy radar but could become relevant if things fall their way this season.

Keep these players on your watch list and be ready to pounce when their opportunity arises.

Taylor Heinicke, QB, Washington

Mitchell Layton / Getty Images Sport / Getty

The recent talk that Washington's starting quarterback job will be an open competition is a nice sentiment from head coach Ron Rivera, but it's unlikely to be true.

Barring an injury, Ryan Fitzpatrick is all but assured to be atop the depth chart when the season kicks off, and he'll put up solid fantasy stats most weeks he's under center. The bigger question is whether he can stay there.

Fitzpatrick, who'll turn 39 in November, plays an aggressive style, often sacrificing his body to make a block or gain an extra yard while scrambling. It's an admirable trait that causes fans to adore him and one that also puts him at risk of missing time, especially at his age. We've seen the Fitzmagic run out at times in the past, either due to injury or a flurry of turnovers.

If that occurs in Washington, Rivera has another card to play in Heinicke.

In addition to a stunning 306-passing yard, 46-rushing yard, two-touchdown performance against the eventual Super Bowl champion Buccaneers last postseason, Heinicke has received glowing reviews from beat writers in OTAs.

The 28-year-old also bulked up, putting on 15 pounds in an effort to be more durable.

With the ability to rack up yards with his legs and outstanding offensive weapons at every position, Heinicke would be a fantasy factor the instant he reached the starting lineup. Keep him on your radar just in case.

Other sleeper QB candidates:

Marcus Mariota, Raiders - The former first-rounder posted 25.8 fantasy points - including 88 rushing yards and a score - in his lone appearance last year. If Derek Carr struggles or gets hurt, Mariota's dual-threat skills will make him an intriguing fantasy option.
Gardner Minshew, Jaguars - With Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville and backup C.J. Beathard signed to a bigger deal than Minshew, the former sixth-rounder will be traded before the season. Depending on where Minshew ends up, he could see his value rise, specifically if it's a team looking to replace an injured starter.
Davis Mills, Texans - Deshaun Watson's situation remains up in the air, so at this point, any Houston quarterback could start in 2021. Even if veteran Tyrod Taylor gets the initial nod, the Texans aren't projected to win many games, so they might as well find out what they have in Mills later in the year.

Ty Johnson, RB, Jets

If you're looking for a surprise fantasy starter at running back, the best place to search is a backfield with an unstable depth chart.

The Jets are figuring out the pecking order among their ball carriers, with early indications pointing to a three-man rotation of Tevin Coleman, Michael Carter, and Johnson opening the season.

Of that trio, Coleman is the most familiar with the Jets' new system. The 28-year-old has experience playing for offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur, who came over from the 49ers. However, Coleman failed to make much of an impact over the last two seasons in San Francisco.

Carter - a fourth-round selection in April - is an excellent pass-catcher and caught the eye of multiple beat writers in minicamp, but he may lack the size to be a true NFL workhorse. He split touches with Javonte Williams in college and might max out as a committee member in the pros.

That leaves a potential path for Johnson. As we've seen with Kyle Shanahan's rushing attacks, unheralded players can carve out major roles. So, would it be surprising to see someone like Johnson ascend in a Shanahan-inspired scheme?

The 23-year-old flashed when he topped 40% of his team's snaps last year, recording a 24-touch, 117-yard, one-score effort against the Raiders in Week 13 and a 13-touch, 68-yard performance versus the Patriots in the finale.

While that's a microscopic sample size, it gives us a brief glimpse at what Johnson is capable of. If you're digging this deep for value, the odds of a massive return on investment are slim, but Johnson is worth monitoring.

Other sleeper RB candidates:

Samaje Perine, Bengals - Perine is the clubhouse leader to replace former top backup Giovani Bernard in Cincy. It's a particularly notable role for fantasy purposes as Joe Mixon continues to work his way back from a foot injury.
Jerick McKinnon, Chiefs - The 29-year-old might not be as effective as he once was, but any Kansas City running back deserves consideration in case Clyde Edwards-Helaire gets hurt.
Jaret Patterson, Washington - The undrafted rookie is already making plays in OTAs, earning a Darren Sproles comparison from Ron Rivera. With Antonio Gibson still getting over last season's toe injury, pay attention to who emerges as his immediate backup.

Byron Pringle, WR, Chiefs

With Sammy Watkins no longer on the Chiefs, fantasy managers are trying to decipher which pass-catcher will step up behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

The primary challengers are Mecole Hardman, Demarcus Robinson, Cornell Powell, and Pringle.

Hardman has been hyped as Patrick Mahomes' next great receiving threat for a couple of years now, but he hasn't evolved into a consistent weapon. Robinson has popped off for big games, only to fade back into obscurity. Powell is an interesting rookie, but his Day 3 draft capital makes him a long shot.

Meanwhile, Mahomes targeted Pringle the most during OTAs, according to The Athletic's Nate Taylor. That's hardly a reason to pop champagne - after all, it's still June - but it's something to watch heading into training camp.

The 27-year-old has poured in regular-season stat lines of 6-103-1 and 4-52-1 when he's seen 70% of his team's offensive snaps.

Though Hardman remains the favorite for that No. 2 role, he might cost you a ninth- or 10th-round pick. Pringle is three inches taller, nearly 20 pounds heavier, and he offers a better speed score than Hardman.

Pringle can also be had for free in current fantasy drafts and might have just as much upside if he can become a regular in the Chiefs' passing attack.

Other sleeper WR candidates:

Marquez Callaway, Saints - After catching 15 passes for 160 yards in the three games where he saw increased snaps last season, Callaway will battle Tre'Quan Smith for the No. 2 wideout spot in New Orleans.
Keke Coutee, Texans - Houston's offense might be a trainwreck this year, but its receiving depth chart is wide-open behind Brandin Cooks. Keep in mind, Coutee was the WR33 in fantasy points per game (14.2) over the final five weeks last season.
Tyron Johnson, Chargers - The 25-year-old field-stretcher will compete with Jalen Guyton and Josh Palmer for the right to be Justin Herbert's No. 3 receiver. Johnson posted 50 yards or more in six of his 12 outings last season.

Mo Alie-Cox, TE, Colts

Bryan Bennett / Getty Images Sport / Getty

Tight ends accounted for 22.4% of the Colts' targets in 2020, and Alie-Cox led that group with 31 catches and 394 yards.

Jack Doyle is still on the roster, but Trey Burton and the 47 passes thrown his way last year have left. While rookie Kylen Granson might take on some of those looks, it's rare for a first-year tight end to make a major impact in the passing game.

So, the time is now for Alie-Cox.

New quarterback Carson Wentz has plenty of history getting his tight ends involved, helping both Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert put up top-10 fantasy numbers during his time in Philly.

And for all the weapons the Colts have, their receiving corps lacks a true dominant option. Michael Pittman, Parris Campbell, and T.Y. Hilton are more likely to split big weeks than to hog targets.

None of this guarantees Alie-Cox will see his role grow; it simply makes him an interesting name to consider on your fantasy waiver wire.

Other sleeper TE candidates:

Dan Arnold, Panthers - Arnold has the pass-catching chops to be a difference-maker, but will he get an opportunity in a crowded Carolina offense?
James O'Shaughnessy, Jaguars - Jacksonville didn't address the tight end position in the offseason, and now O'Shaughnessy sits atop the depth chart as a potential starter in a Trevor Lawrence-led offense.
Foster Moreau, Raiders - The third-year tight end is a Darren Waller injury away from being a significant fantasy asset.

A stretch of four straight days with NFL action really ramps up Saturday with an exciting triple-header filled with playoff implications.

The action starts with Buccaneers-Lions from Detroit, continues with 49ers-Cardinals from the desert, and finishes with a Dolphins-Raiders nightcap. Here's how we're betting the slate.

Alex Kolodziej

Lions team total under 22 (-110)

The Lions have lost four of the last five but somehow the offense has been holding up its end of the bargain. Detroit's quietly gone over its team total in four straight, averaging 27 points per game. This is where the magic runs out.

The Buccaneers' defense paces the league in virtually every rushing statistic. Detroit, meanwhile, is No. 26 in yards per attempt and No. 23 in rush DVOA.

I know the Lions are 'dogs, in a dome, and should be chucking, but Matthew Stafford is still banged up, and there are issues with the play-calling duties. I'll bet on Tampa's defense in this spot.

Dan Arnold under (TBA) receiving yards (-115)

The Cardinals' offense has received a nice boost down the stretch from Arnold. He has three touchdowns in as many weeks, including a season-high 61 yards over that span. However, this is a good spot to sell high.

The 49ers allow the fewest yards per game (31.7) to opposing tight ends in the entire league. And although Arnold's been lighting up the stat sheet, he hasn't played in more than 40% of offensive snaps in five straight.

He's an easy fade Saturday.

Alex Moretto

49ers/Cardinals over 48.5 (-110)

In control of their own playoff destiny, the Cardinals have played arguably their best football of the season in the last two weeks. Kyler Murray and the offense registered 916 yards and 59 points in their last two games against a pair of stout defensive units in the Eagles and Giants.

A banged-up 49ers defense that's now without Richard Sherman is a step down, and the Cardinals will score at will.

We can safely expect the 49ers to contribute on the scoreboard as well. Despite the miserable play of Nick Mullens - C.J. Beathard starts this week - San Francisco has generated plenty of offense of late thanks to Kyle Shanahan's talent as a play-caller. The 49ers averaged over 400 yards of offense the past three weeks and they will find continued success here against a middling Cardinals defense. The return of George Kittle will help their red-zone woes as well.

Nelson Agholor under 46.5 receiving yards (-115)

Henry Ruggs has been activated off the COVID-19 list and Hunter Renfrow returned to practice fully, with the assumption being he will clear concussion protocol in time to play. Darren Waller and Josh Jacobs will also command a large share of targets in a Raiders offense that loves spreading the ball around.

No matter where Nelson Agholor lines up, he's going to see a healthy dose of Byron Jones and Xavien Howard against a Dolphins team that almost exclusively plays man coverage. With a limited target share and plenty of attention from Miami's top corners, expect a quieter night from Agholor.

C Jackson Cowart

Kyler Murray over 41.5 rushing yards (-115)

Any time Murray faces the 49ers, I rush to check the number on this prop. Sure enough, this is easily low enough to justify the over on the NFL's 18th-leading rusher (741 yards).

The Cardinals quarterback has run for at least 45 yards in eight of 14 starts this year, including when he gashed San Francisco's defense for 91 yards in the season opener. That came after he rushed for 34 yards and 67 yards against the 49ers in two meetings a year ago.

This season, San Francisco's defense ranks fourth in rushing yards allowed to opposing QBs and has allowed at least 42 rushing yards to QBs in four games this year. Expect Murray to make it five.

Dolphins -3 (-105)

I know I'm not the only one here who's enjoyed the Dolphins' 11-3 ATS record this year, but it feels like we're among the few who have seen through these flimsy lines on the Fins.

I smell another fishy price this week against the Raiders, whose defense is a trainwreck and whose offense will struggle to withstand the barrage of pressure from Miami's tenacious front.

Derek Carr was originally supposed to miss two weeks with a "significant" groin injury; now he's playing nine days later and will be expected to evade the Dolphins' unrelenting pass rush? I'm just not buying it.

Get ready for your season with theScore's 2020 Fantasy Football Draft Kit and subscribe to push notifications in the NFL Fantasy News section.

In an effort to shine a light on the unnoticed or outright ignored, we've built a list of players who are way off the fantasy radar but could become relevant if things fall their way during the season.

Keep these players on your watch list and be ready to pounce when their opportunity arises.

Average draft position data courtesy of Fanball, since best-ball ADP tends to be ahead of the curve at this point in the year. It's based on 12-team leagues with PPR scoring.

Marcus Mariota, QB, Raiders

Mike Ehrmann / Getty Images Sport / Getty

We tipped you off last year to the sneaky potential of Ryan Tannehill as the Tennessee Titans' backup. By midseason, he had taken over as the starter, and he posted the third-most fantasy points among quarterbacks from Week 7 on.

The man he replaced - Mariota - now finds himself on the other end of a similar situation with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Mariota signed a two-year, $17.6-million contract to work behind fellow underachiever Derek Carr. The dollar amount is worth noting because Mariota will make more than any backup has over the past two years, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.

By comparison, the only man drafted ahead of Mariota in 2015 - Jameis Winston - inked a one-year, $1.1-million deal to sit on the Saints' bench this season. For all of Winston's flaws, the former first overall pick has been far more productive during his NFL career and is coming off a 5,000-yard campaign.

So the Raiders clearly see something in Mariota, which isn't surprising since general manager Mike Mayock had him above Winston in his prospect rankings five years ago.

Despite Mariota's struggles as a pro, it's possible his fantasy value could be rejuvenated with a new organization. Prior to 2019, the 26-year-old displayed the type of rushing ability that fantasy managers covet in their quarterbacks.

Year	Carries	Rush. Yds	Rush. TDs
2015	34	252	2
2016	60	349	2
2017	60	312	5
2018	64	357	2

And before being replaced last season, Mariota was on pace for 54 carries and 294 yards.

Rushing stats alone won't save Mariota's career, but a new coaching staff and an improving supporting cast in Vegas are enough to generate hope for his outlook. If he does get thrust into the starting lineup, Mariota will be an intriguing QB2 with enough rushing upside to flirt with low-end QB1 numbers.

Deep-sleeper potential: ★★★★☆

Reggie Bonnafon, RB, Panthers

Don't feel bad if you're unsure who Christian McCaffrey's handcuff is. Bonnafon has largely been an afterthought in the fantasy community while CMC dominates snaps and touches in the Carolina Panthers' backfield.

As an undrafted free agent in 2019, Bonnafon was limited to 67 plays and touched the ball just 22 times as a rookie. However, he stood out when McCaffrey dealt with cramps in Week 5, turning five carries into 80 yards and a touchdown, though most of that production came on a 59-yard score.

With such a microscopic sample size, we don't know if Bonnafon is capable of carrying the load in an NFL backfield, and the 24-year-old will once again need to hold off veteran Mike Davis and fifth-round sophomore Jordan Scarlett before we can confidently view him as the second option in Carolina.

McCaffrey hasn't missed a game since being drafted in 2017, and he has 729 touches over the last two seasons. Considering the rate at which running backs get injured, it's unlikely McCaffrey continues to make it through each campaign unscathed. As we saw last year, any trip to the trainer's table will result in more work for Bonnafon, who continues to go undrafted in almost every league.

Keep him in mind as an end-of-the-bench stash or an in-season waiver wire add with sky-high upside if McCaffrey goes down.

Deep-sleeper potential: ★★★★☆

Trayveon Williams, RB, Bengals

Williams is a late-round lottery ticket worth rostering until we find out if Joe Mixon's holdout threats are real.

As we witnessed with Le'Veon Bell and Melvin Gordon the last two years, star running backs seeking new contracts aren't bluffing about their willingness to sit out part of or even an entire season. In those instances, James Conner and Austin Ekeler became fantasy stars.

While Williams is currently behind 28-year-old Giovani Bernard on the depth chart, the latter could be a salary-cap casualty if the coaching staff feels comfortable enough with the youngster.

"Spoke with a Bengals offensive coach, who said as much as they love Joe Mixon, dynasty leaguers shouldn't forget about Trayveon Williams, whom they are very high on," ESPN's Matthew Berry wrote after the NFL combine in February.

Jim Turner, Williams’ OL coach during his three years at Texas A&M, is also currently the #Bengals O-line coach.

The Bengals' offensive line is still a work in progress, but the arrival of quarterback Joe Burrow and the return of wideout A.J. Green could kickstart Zac Taylor's attack and take pressure off the running game.

Whether Williams sees increased volume thanks to a Mixon holdout or gets promoted later due to an injury, he's a name you should be familiar with for 2020 and beyond.

Deep-sleeper potential: ★★★☆☆

Josh Reynolds, WR, Rams

Sean M. Haffey / Getty Images Sport / Getty

Following the trade that sent Brandin Cooks to the Houston Texans, most of the attention in the Los Angeles Rams' receiving corps has been focused on Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and tight end Tyler Higbee.

Though the team did lean more on 12 personnel late in the season, it's unlikely to bail on three-receiver sets altogether, creating an opportunity for another wideout's role to grow.

Without a true offseason to prepare, second-rounder Van Jefferson will face an uphill battle to earn playing time as a rookie. He also failed to top 700 yards in any of his college seasons, so it's hard to project significant stats early in his NFL career.

Entering his fourth season with the club, Reynolds is comfortable with the offense and has flashed some promise when given the chance.

He scored five touchdowns on 29 receptions in 2018, and in the three games as a full-time player last year, Reynolds delivered stat lines of 3-73-1, 3-49-0, and 3-55-0, making him a borderline WR3 in fantasy on a per-game basis over that brief stretch.

"We would not have made the move on Brandin Cooks had it not been for the confidence we have in Josh Reynolds," head coach Sean McVay told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times after the draft in April.

Reynolds has averaged 48 targets per season over the last two years and will soak up a portion of the 72 targets vacated by Cooks. That should be enough to put him on the fantasy radar as a WR4 with a very high ceiling if either Woods or Kupp suffer an injury.

Deep-sleeper potential: ★★★★☆

Steven Sims, WR, Washington

Scott Taetsch / Getty Images Sport / Getty

Washington's receiving corps is wide-open behind top pass-catcher Terry McLaurin, who led the team with 93 targets in 2019.

Sims quietly finished third with 56 targets thanks to a massive uptick in volume in December. He was thrown to at least seven times in each of his last four outings, posting stat lines of 4-40-0, 5-45-1, 6-64-2, and 5-81-1 for the ninth-most fantasy points among receivers over that span.

That level of production is unsustainable, but he showed enough to deserve a longer look. Whether Sims continues to be a PPR machine will depend on the approach of the new coaching staff, the development of rookie teammate Antonio Gandy-Golden, and the progress quarterback Dwayne Haskins can make heading into his second year as a pro.

The good news for Sims is his mini breakout came late in the season when Haskins was at the helm.

Casual fantasy owners will be hesitant to get involved with Washington's passing game outside of McLaurin, but you should set your sights on Sims as a low-cost, sneaky sleeper in 2020.

Deep-sleeper potential: ★★★☆☆

Trent Taylor, WR, 49ers

Michael Zagaris / Getty Images Sport / Getty

We have very little to go on when projecting Taylor's usage, but the San Francisco 49ers' receiving corps is an unproven group behind tight end George Kittle.

Deebo Samuel is expected to miss time after undergoing foot surgery in June. The emergence of first-rounder Brandon Aiyuk may take longer than anticipated as he recovers from core muscle surgery and deals with the fallout of reduced offseason activities. Versatile sophomore Jalen Hurd is also rehabbing from a stress fracture in his back that sidelined him his entire rookie season. Meanwhile, Kendrick Bourne and Dante Pettis have yet to earn bigger roles in the offense.

Perhaps that's why people around the team continue to hype Taylor and his connection with Jimmy Garoppolo. It's certainly not because of the 26-year-old wideout's durability - he missed all of last season with a broken foot. But according to several beat writers, Taylor was Garoppolo's go-to receiver in training camp prior to the injury.

When I say Trent Taylor was dominating, I mean he was doing this type of stuff on the daily during training camp - right in front of John Lynch never hurt. #49ers

NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco added to that narrative when he reported that the "49ers expect big things from Taylor," and the receiver has returned to the field running routes and catching passes from Garoppolo.

If the rapport with his quarterback is as strong as some have claimed, a healthy Taylor could capture the 49ers' starting slot job, thus warranting a spot on fantasy rosters in PPR leagues. For now, monitor any information coming out about San Francisco's WR depth chart and put Taylor on your preseason watchlist.

As you've surely noticed by now, one of the paths to uncovering a super-deep sleeper is following the breadcrumbs left by front offices, coaching staffs, and beat writers.

That can trickle out in the form of quotes, but sometimes you simply have to watch how a team addresses a position in the offseason.

The Arizona Cardinals got very little from their tight ends in 2019, and yet they chose not to add anyone of note in free agency or the draft.

One reason for that might be Arnold, who was claimed off waivers in December and ended the season in epic fashion with four catches, 76 yards, and a touchdown.

The team was impressed by the performance, and now "Arnold has a chance to make a real impact," according to The Athletic.

Good Morning Football's Peter Schrager echoed that sentiment a week later, suggesting he heard from someone within the Cardinals organization that Arnold will be a "key part" of the offense.

“I’d like to think that when I say something with great confidence on the air, the viewer understands I’m saying it with knowledge of the situation. Fantasy owners — draft @AZCardinals TE Dan Arnold this year.” - @PSchrags pic.twitter.com/NZ1dXlpbPI

There are a ton of late-round tight ends with breakout appeal, so you may not need to dig deep and reach for Arnold, but the 6-foot-6 red-zone threat could end up being a difference-maker in one of the league's most exciting young offenses.
