Johnny Manziel's turbulent fall from grace over his two professional seasons with the Cleveland Browns is among the more bleak stories in recent memory.

Manziel, one of the most prolific college quarterbacks in history, couldn't translate his success at Texas A&M to the professional level.

The former Heisman Trophy's pro career was marred by numerous incidents of drinking, partying in clubs, and missed meetings. More recently, Manziel became the subject of a criminal investigation, when his ex-girlfriend alleged the quarterback struck her in a hotel and ruptured her eardrum.

In a lengthy profile titled "The Fall of Johnny Football", The MMQB's Emily Kaplan details Manziel's rapid descent, including how he ignored LeBron James' advice.

“When he had LeBron James as a mentor, texting him all the time, hanging out at his house watching football, and Johnny didn’t listen to his advice? That’s when I knew he had a problem," one of Manziel's former coaches revealed.

James' sports marketing company, LRMR, represented Manziel, but eventually dropped him in January amid numerous controversies.

Manziel's friends said that the former Browns quarterback lost motivation when he was demoted to third-string as a result of partying during the team's bye week.

"If Johnny doesn’t have a carrot dangling in front of him, he resorts to his default," a friend of Manziel's said. “And his default is not giving a s---."

It's unlikely Manziel will be signed this summer, and he'll serve as a cautionary tale to many precocious athletes.
