Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields appears to be making steady progress in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Week 14.
Shields returned to practice Wednesday and was officially ruled as limited.
Head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier in the day that Shields was expected to work out in some fashion, but his limited designation means he was able to participate in a significant fashion.
"Sam had a really good workout yesterday," said McCarthy, according to Ryan Wood of Green Bay Press-Gazette. "I think he's going to do some on-field work today. He still hasn't passed all the way through protocol."
Shields' participation means he's passed a stage of the concussion protocol, but will have to gain further clearance in order to stand a shot of returning Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals.
