Dallas Cowboys quarterback Matt Cassel will start Saturday's game against the New York Jets, but head coach Jason Garrett will not hesitate to turn to backup Kellen Moore should Cassel struggle.
Cassel, 1-5 as a starter this season, will be "on a short leash," a source told Ed Werder of ESPN.
Moore was given a share of the first-team reps in practice this week. And with the Cowboys still mathematically alive for a playoff spot, the team may need a spark should it falter out of the gate.
Cassel has thrown five touchdowns against six interceptions on the season while struggling to move a Cowboys offense that's become increasingly anemic as the year has progressed.
Moore has never played in an NFL game, spending 2012-14 as a reserve for the Detroit Lions.
