Gary Kubiak regrets playing Peyton Manning in loss to Chiefs

It was a particularly bittersweet afternoon for Peyton Manning, as the Denver Broncos quarterback became the NFL's all-time passing leader, amid a four-interception performance against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Manning was benched shortly after breaking Brett Favre's record, and the Broncos stumbled to a 29-13 defeat against the Chiefs.

Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak revealed that Manning would remain the team's starting quarterback, but he should've benched the veteran due to foot and rib injuries.

"Peyton is our quarterback if he's healthy. I am disappointed in myself. When Saturday there was more (with rib injury) I should have made the decision to not play him," Kubiak said postgame via Troy Renck of The Denver Post.

Manning was in no mood to celebrate his record, after going 5-of-20 for 35 yards and no touchdowns.

"It was a bad game," Manning said. "It's really disappointing. I put our team in bad positions all day ... I thought I was good enough to play. I was going out to help the team and I ended up hurting the team."

Brock Osweiler went 14-of-24 for 146 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in relief.

Manning sits atop the annals of league history, but Sunday's game won't be remembered as a canonical moment in his illustrious career.
