Robert Griffin III won't be stepping back into the starting job he once held, but it appears the Washington Redskins quarterback may soon return from a concussion suffered in a preseason game Aug. 20.
Head coach Jay Gruden announced following the team's final exhibition contest Thursday that Griffin will meet with two doctors Friday. At that point, he could receive medical clearance.
Redskins management is reportedly considering moving on from the team's former first-round pick, though receiving resistance from ownership. Griffin's healthy return will only fuel speculation that his days in Washington are numbered.
Gruden made it clear that the decision to go with Kirk Cousins as regular-season starter was in no way temporary, seemingly relegating Griffin to the bench for the foreseeable future.
Griffin has struggled to recapture the level of play from his electrifying rookie season in 2012. He's led the Redskins to a 5-20 record in his 25 starts since.
