Tyrod Taylor will start the Buffalo Bills' second preseason game Thursday against the Cleveland Browns, head coach Rex Ryan announced.
Taylor went 5-of-8 for 49 yards in a 25-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Friday and was a force in the running game, compiling 47 yards on six carries.
Matt Cassel started Friday's game, going 7-of-8 for 56 yards.
EJ Manuel was 4-of-8 for 77 yards and a touchdown, finding wide receiver Deonte Thompson for a 51-yard strike.
Ryan didn't commit to a starter for the Bills' third preseason game when asked if Manuel would get a chance to open against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Aug. 29. Nonetheless, the coach was impressed by all three quarterbacks vying for the starting vacancy.
"(Matt) Cassel played to his strengths. Tyrod, you can see what he can do. He has a little magic to him," Ryan said, according to Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News. "You want all three to play at a high level. They all clearly did today."
