It was all good just two months ago for Randy Gregory, slated to be a near-certain top-10 selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.
On March 26, though, Gregory revealed he failed a test for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine, causing his draft stock to descend rapidly.
The former Nebraska defensive end wasn't selected in the first round Thursday, and was livid about how the process played out.
Gregory spoke to Yahoo Sports' Rand Getlin, with his sole focus being on exacting vengeance on all the teams that didn't choose him:
Honestly, I'm extremely disappointed. I didn't sleep last night because I feel like I let my family and the people who believe me in down, and I'm sorry for that. But I'm going to use that as fuel. The franchise that drafts me won't have to worry about me off the field, but the teams that didn't select me will have to worry about me on the field.
When I met with coaches (and general managers) around the league (in the run up to the draft) I bared my soul. I told them things nobody knows about me - not even my family. I was extremely transparent with them because I wanted to make sure that nothing could come out about me that teams hadn't heard from me in person. And I felt like all of those meetings went well - that (personnel) walked away knowing that I want to be great. Not good, but great.
I'm just looking forward to joining a franchise that wants to partner with me. I feel like I'm the best defensive player in the draft and the team that gets me is going to get a great pro. I've learned a lot from this experience and I hope players who come behind me learned from this too. I know there's a plan for me and I'm just ready to take my next step.
The 22-year-old is widely expected to be selected in the second round, and Gregory appears motivated to prove that he warranted a first-round choice.
