New Jersey governor Chris Christie received a lot of hate after he was shown whooping it up with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones during Sunday's wild-card game.
Christie, a lifelong Cowboys fan, was unapologetic for his actions, telling WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show that he hopes to attend Dallas's next game against the Green Bay Packers.
"We all know what this is about, and that's fine," Christie said, according to CBS New York. "Believe me, I would take all the abuse that I'm taking from some of these folks in return for Cowboys playoff wins. As a fan, that's what it's all about. … Just because I'm Governor of New Jersey doesn't mean that I change who I root for – that's it."
Christie's brother, Todd Christie, was also on the defensive after the game, taking special aim at Philadelphia Eagles fans in a Facebook post:
To all of those non Cowboy fans who have their panties in a ringer because the Governor of NJ is a Cowboys fan – GET A LIFE !!! The Gov has been a Cowboys fan for his entire life and ALL of you would sit with the owner of your favorite team in a heartbeat if given the chance. I'm a Giants fan – we are sitting home for the fourth straight year. Eagles fans – possibly you should worry more about the fact that your sorry ass team has never won a Super Bowl and less about who's rooting for which team. I mean crazy pathetic posts. And for every calorically challenged FB person who posts about the Gov's weight – forget the magic mirror and look at yourself. Weight posts – really?
As for Cowboys fans, they may have found themselves a good luck charm in Christie and his trademark orange sweater. All five of the games he's attended this season wearing the sweater have ended with a Cowboys victory.
