2004 - Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt resigns

After the Miami Dolphins started the season 1-8 start, Wannstedt bowed out from his role and defensive coordinator Jim Bates took over as interim coach for the remainder of the season.

Wannstedt joined the Dolphins in 1999 as the defensive coordinator for-then head coach Jimmie Johnson. He was promoted to head coach in 2000.

1997 - Lions' Barry Sanders sets new mark 

Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders became the first player in NFL history to run for over 1,000 yards in nine consecutive seasons.

Sanders rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries, including a 51-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The Lions fell to Washington 30-7.
