The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have begun conversations with Gerald McCoy in the hopes of signing the defensive tackle a long-term contract, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
McCoy, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, will earn approximately $15 million this season. According to Stroud, Bucs general manager Jason Licht is hopeful a new agreement will be reached before training camp, though there is no timetable in place.
The 26-year-old started all 16 games for the Bucs last season, recording 50 tackles (35 solo), nine sacks, eight tackles for a loss, and one fumble recovery. He was also voted to the Pro Bowl for the second time in his career.
